PRIFF Programme 1 Synopsis

BETWEEN WORLDS brings together two stories of people searching for their place in the world. In Manila, half-Filipina Nia trains in secret with queer outcast Malic to join a Filipino Martial Arts team, learning that winning begins with accepting who she is. In a remote Senegalese village, young albino Ousmane faces daily insults and threats rooted in superstition, until he and his mother set out across the desert towards Europe, facing exhaustion, dehydration and ruthless smugglers along the way. Together, these films explore what it means to be different, and how difference can become a source of rejection or of shared strength.
